Akamaru is the faithful dog of Kiba, who usually sits on top of Kiba's head. Kiba uses him as a tool in combat and Akamaru has proven to be useful to do various things. For example: He can pick up the scent of enemies and determine wether they're hostile or not. He can also perform combo jutsu's together with Kiba. But to kiba, Akamaru is not just a tool or ninja-dog, they have become very close, as a matter of fact Akamaru threw himself in front of kiba to protect him from an attack.
